HDMI: The Basics

HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) was officially introduced in 2003 but it wasn’t until recently that it has begun to fulfil its full potential. HDMI has the ability to deliver exceptionally high quality sound or vision; meaning pictures should be sharper and an audible difference in video noise. HDMI is compatible with most DVD players, set top boxes and TV’s because it has been around for some time.

HDMI replaces the function of SCART leads and is able to carry sound and pictures simultaneously and is different because it uses digital signals. It is designed to simplify things when linking your AV system together, essentially carrying out more than one function through just the one cable.

Using HDMI cables does not however, guarantee better performance and quality and can not always show HDTV, you will need to look out for a ‘HD Ready’ logo to ensure compatibility between systems. Continue
